Rita Rani Ahuja is an actress, writer, director, singer and dancer. She is known for directing the film Bombay Skies and for giving voice to Alexandrite in Steven Universe.

BCBr: From whom / where did the invitation to work at Steven Universe come from?
Rita: I got the part in Steven Universe through my agents. They called me to go for a test / essay for the role of Alexandrite. When I was looking at the material for the character above, I was so excited about her. I remember the energy surpassing all my being during that test - and that's when I discovered the voice of Alexandrite in the test room itself. After that, I sent a little prayer to the Universe, saying that I would love to interpret it. So a few months later, I got the call from my agents saying that the Steven Universe Team and the Cartoon Network would like me to record the Alexandrite voice. This was a great day.
BCBr: What was the preparation you had to dub Alexandrite?
Rita: I do not have any training for "dubbing", so to speak, but I practice a lot as an actress in the theater and in movies. And, I've done a lot of Voice Over work (a kind of narration) as an actress. What I discovered is that it is a very physical experience while playing the part in the recording studio. Your body must be involved as you infuse yourself with the character and your voice. I also did a lot of vocal and singing training. All this helps when making the voice of an animated character.

BCBr: How was your relationship with SU crew?
Rita: My relationship with the SU team has been great so far! Every time I went to work with the program's people, I had a great experience! The creator, the writers and directors, the other actors have such an open and kind heart - and everyone always works with such passion. A lot of it has to do with the captains of the boat. For example, Rebecca Sugar is an incredible woman, and so pure in spirit. I think this spreads to everyone working on the program regularly or (like me) who only comes a few times.
BCBr: Do you see yourself with a personality similar to Alexandrite?
Rita: My personality and that of Alexandrite are probably very similar. I think she's that powerful being I have inside me. Both of us have the same strength and I am hardheaded as she is, with a genuine desire to follow the path of truth. But, I probably do not go as much as she does when she's angry. And I may be a bit more perceptive than she - but I think she has good intentions. And also, I do not have a second mouth like her
BCBr: You had voice-over experience? If not, how was your first impression? Do you want to dub more characters in Cartoon (if invited)?
Rita: I've done many voiceovers, or as we call it, Voice Over works before. But when it came to voice acting, Alexandrite was the most entertaining role I've ever played. And I felt that feeling surpassing my whole being when I interpret it. And yes, I would love to make the voice of more characters if I am invited. Cartoon Network, if you are reading this, invite me!
BCBr: How was your recognition after your work at SU?
Rita: I gained a lot of recognition after working at SU. It's good that Alexandrite is so vibrant for SU fans. It comes from the bottom of my heart and my being, and all of this tells me that I'm on the right track playing her role and my work in general.
BCBr: What's your feeling with your fans here in Brazil? Do you feel like visiting or have you come here?
Rita: I feel honored to have fans in Brazil. Also because, I'm a fan of Brazil. My twin brother was a big fan of Brazil. He wanted to go - and talked about Brazil as a place he would like to visit frequently. I have not been, but I hope to go someday. I will go by my brother very soon!
BCBr: Finally, could you leave a message for the tanners of Beach City Brasil and its fans here in Brazil?
Rita: Finally ... For all the fans in Brazil, I want to say thank you! Alexandrite appeared once so far, but the love and support I received made me smile from ear to ear - kind of like the Alexandrite, with all her sharp teeth. I am grateful for the response so far, and I look forward to connecting even more with the fans and followers of SU Brazil.
